Little Heath Primary School

Together we Learn, Together we Achieve

Welcome to Little Heath Primary School. Please explore our website to see what we are achieving; wider opportunities, sport, and helpful links. At Little Heath Primary School, we strive to make children feel safe, to achieve their full aspirations, and have the knowledge and skills to REACH their full potential.

Science

At Little Heath Primary School, we strive for all children to leave our school as curious individuals who are not afraid to ask questions.
We aim for our children to develop the skills they need to understand why science matters and to know the importance of developing scientific knowledge and skills for their own futures. From EYFS to Year 6, our clear, progressive curriculum enables children to build on their prior learning, using memory joggers to retrieve what they have already learnt. Enquiry-based learning and working scientifically skills are threaded throughout our curriculum to ensure children become critical thinkers who feel confident to solve problems and answer their own questions. We encourage our children to ask why and how things work and to use scientific vocabulary to explain their reasoning. We understand that having a wide vocabulary and good reading skills are crucial for our students to be able to access all aspects of the curriculum and want to ensure our science curriculum is relevant and accessible for every child. We inspire our children to explore the world around them and to be confident enough to challenge the thinking of others.
Most importantly, we want our children to enjoy all areas of science during their time at Little Heath, inspiring a lifelong love of learning.

Progression

At Little Heath Primary School, we prioritise the development of vocabulary as part of our commitment to supporting every child's learning journey. We understand that building a rich vocabulary is key to academic success and communication. Our curriculum is designed to ensure steady progression, helping students expand their vocabulary, improve language skills, and apply them. Below, you will find the relevant documents that outline our approach to vocabulary development and skills progression within Science.

Teaching Vocabulary at Little Heath

We focus a lot of our thinking about which key vocabuary we need to teach the children. We work hard on progression of vocabulary through all subjects.
