At Little Heath, we aim to provide a high-quality English curriculum for all children to develop skills, knowledge and understanding so that they become fluent readers, writers and speakers. Through the teaching of vocabulary across the curriculum, we are giving children the foundations they need to build on to be able to express themselves fluently.
Our English curriculum is structured so that key skills are embedded to support the children’s learning journey in English, with opportunities to consolidate and reinforce taught literacy skills within the year and across each key stage. Our approach to English ensures that children are exposed to a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts- adapted to meet the needs of the children- so they progress and develop a wide range of skills to have the tools to write for a range of purposes. Our aim is for all children to be inspired and motivated, enjoying writing and develop a love of language and literature.
As a school, we understand the importance of reading as a source of knowledge and enjoyment, therefore we aim to instil a life-long love of reading through our reading curriculum. We strive to allow our children to feel represented in the books they enjoy in school.
