Dol-y-Moch November 2022

Wednesday 16th November: We are home safe and sound. We are all tired but have had an amazing few days away. See what the children thought here:

We are home tired but safe and sound...

Wednesday 16th November

We have had a busy morning clearing out our rooms and putting our bags on the minibus. We will be leaving here about 9.00am to head back to Coventry.
School will send a message when we are about half an hour away.

See you later.

Tuesday 15th November

We have just had dinner for the last time at Dol-y-Moch. The weather was forecast to be a wet, horrible day, however we got a beautiful Autumn day for our last day here in Wales.

Group A and B began the day orienteering in a gorgeous forest. The children worked together in teams to follow the map to get to different check points. The children had time to look at the environment they were in and talked about the things they noticed. They ate their lunch next to a lake before heading off to the beach. At the beach the children explored collecting items for some natural pieces of art, which they then created. They also had fun playing in the shore. Mr Sanders taught some of the children how to skim stones. To end the day the children had a delicious ice cream.

Group C had another fantastic day today and the once again the children displayed amazing teamwork. To start the day, they joined canoes to make a raft and paddled down the river Dwyryd. They problem solved to find out how to travel forwards, backwards and turn. After a yummy lunch at a beautiful coastal view point, the children traversed across rocks and had a final walk across the beach.

Tonight we are packing our things ready to return home in the morning and visiting the tuck shop. We will contact school to send a message when we are about 30minutes away. We should be back at school around 1.00pm. See you tomorrow.

Good morning from Dol-y-Moch. We have had another good night. All up and getting ready for our last full day of activities.

Monday 14th November

The weather has not been as kind to us today, but we have not let it stop us having a brilliant time.

Groups A and B have spent time in a mine today. We found out some interesting information about the history of the mines and the lives of people who used to live in the area. We used ropes and carabiners to keep ourselves safe while crossing a ledge close to a pool. We also used a small boat to paddle over a deep pool to continue our adventure deeper into the mine. We enjoyed the views as we walked back down the outside of the mountain.

Group C have had another fantastic day today. This morning, we worked incredibly well in teams to follow maps back to the centre. We walked through a forest and a river and used walkie-talkies to communicate with each other. We showed fantastic determination and encouraged each other so well. This afternoon, we went to Criccieth beach where we skimmed rocks, made nature art and enjoyed a yummy ice cream!

Good morning. The children have had another great night, all slept well. Just getting our fuel for the day. Check back later tonight to see what we have been doing.

Sunday 13th November

We have been blessed with a beautiful sunny Autumn day. We began the day with breakfast and jobs around the centre. After a short group assembly, we went out for a fun packed day.

Group A went canoeing on a river. Children learnt how to canoe and then spent time collaborating to complete tasks. The children loved the experience and it was a delight to see them all so happy. Before moving on they ate their lunch at the side of a Welsh river.

Group B have been kayaking. At first the children were a bit nervous but quickly overcame this and had a fantastic time. After learning the  basics, they had fun playing games and hunting for rubber ducks. To finish the session most of the children did the Dol-y-Moch dive! I’ll leave it for them to tell you about it, but they got wet!

Group A and B spent the afternoon at an amazing beach where the children traversed across rocks at the edge of the beach. They had fun running up huge rocks and seeing how many children could sit on the top of them. They worked collaboratively to do this and they all managed to get to the top!

Group C has spent the time climbing part of a mountain and exploring a mine. The children came out of the mine near the top of the mountain and came back down a different way - even crossing over a waterfall. We are so proud of how the children all supported each other throughout the day. The communication and resilience shown has been wonderful.

The views here are amazing, the children have been talking about how different it is to home. Everyone has had a fantastic day. We are heading out now for our night time activity before going to bed ready for another great day.
