At Little Heath Primary School we aim to give our pupils the opportunity to develop an understanding, knowledge and acceptance of other cultures, nationalities and languages. Through encouraging children to take part in a variety of French lessons, they have the opportunity to listen to a French native speaker, which enables them to practice using the native accent. 

Through encouraging children to ask questions and respond to questions, we aim for them to have a deeper understanding of a modern foreign language and the culture behind it. We aim that this transitions to their respect for all languages, cultures and nationalities so they can navigate their world and thrive in a multi-lingual society. 

Our current high-quality scheme develops children’s curiosity and deepens their understanding of the world.  The teaching of French enables children to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It provides opportunities for them to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read great literature in the original language. This experience provides the foundation for learning further languages, equipping pupils to study and work in other countries.
