Our topic this half term is What a Wonderful World!
We have been finding out how to save our planet and have created posters to help people around the school. In science, we are looking at animals. Our geography is focused on the world and we are investigation continents.
In maths, we are developing our number skills by counting and ordering numbers to 50 and counting in 2s and 5s. We are also practising our number bonds to 10 and 20.
The websites below have lots of maths activities the children can complete at home.
Phonics is still an important part of the children's learning. Phonics play has a lot of free games that can be played at home. If you want to know what phase your child is on, please come and ask.
In Year 1, we do not set regular homework except reading books. This is because the children do a lot during the day and it is important they use the evenings to rest, play and spend time with their families.
We will sometimes send phonics homework, and will send other homework as we realise children need to practice something else.
If you want to do work at home, please ensure you are reading with your child and filling in their diary (using the questions I gave out at parents evening).
There are also links to website above for the children to practise and consolidate the skills we have been working on in school.
It is also important for our children to have access to a wide range of books both at home and at school. Please read as often as possible with/to your child including books which they cannot read themselves. It is free to join you local library and is lots of fun!
